From 27 to 29 October 2025, Port Louis, Mauritius, will host a media development and training conference for African Small Island Developing States organised by AUB in partnership with UNESCO.
The conference aims to advance resilient, responsible and ethical journalism on climate change and disaster-risk reduction at a time when misinformation compounds the threats posed by cyclones, coastal erosion and other extreme weather events.
Organised with the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation, the meeting will focus on solutions and investigative climate journalism, the role of regulators in addressing information disorder, and tools for reporting extreme weather and impact-based forecasting.
Participating media organisations will review and validate institutional disaster preparedness and response plans and assess cross-border co-productions. Field visits and simulation exercises will help participants apply acquired skills in practice.
The event brings together journalists, media executives, regulators, disaster-management agencies, UNESCO, UNDRR and representatives of the Government of Mauritius.
